Identity Theft Lifelock: Don’t Be a Victim!

At Lifelock, our job is to protect your good name. As a consumer, you have rights that allow you to take more control over who uses your identity and how they use it. We do the mechanics...the details if you will...to enforce those rights.

Some of what we do, you can do yourself for free. The difference is that the only thing we think about is how to protect your Identity. Think of it this way: all of us can change our own oil, but most of us have it done by specialists. We'd like to think that what we do is more complicated than changing oil, but you get the idea.

Here's what we do:

First, once you confirm that you have a good faith suspicion that you have been or are about to become a victim of identity theft, we ask the credit bureaus to set free fraud alerts on your behalf. Usually, this is done through our automated systems and the alerts are set within an hour. From time to time there may be a hitch and we have to do the first one manually, usually because they have a different address on file for you. If this happens, we'll tell you right away and do what needs to be done to get the alerts set. (In case you're wondering, we don't charge anything more for this and our Total Service Guarantee is still in effect from day one.)

Second, unless your suspicion changes and you tell us not to, every 90 days or so we ask the credit bureaus to do it again. You can do this for free if you'd prefer, but we make sure it gets done and that it gets done right. That's where the oil change analogy we were talking about kicks in.

Third, we request that your name be removed from lists of pre-approved offers for credit cards and/or insurance. Several sources cite these type of pre-approved offers as one of the many ways identities can be stolen. Many of our members tell us that this alone is worth the price. Again, you can do this for free, but why not let us do it for you?

Fourth, we order your free credit reports on your behalf from the major credit bureaus and they are sent directly to you. We do this every year. You can also do this yourself for free (Pennzoil anyone?).

Fifth, hassling with lost or stolen wallets is no longer a problem with WalletLock. Sixth, we help you shut down potential identity threats fast with our identity monitoring package:

• “eRecon” scours known criminal websites for the illegal selling or trading of your personal information (including your Social Security number, credit card number, driver's license and email address, if provided) and informs you when something is found.

• “TrueAddress” notifies you when we detect any new address information associated with your name in address databases nationwide. This helps alert you if a criminal has changed your address to steal mail and obtain your financial information.

Last, but certainly not least is our $1 Million Service Guarantee!

If your Identity is stolen while you are a member of LifeLock because of some failure or defect in our services, we're going to do whatever it takes to recover your good name. We not only assign you a dedicated specialist to help you, but we will spend up to $1 million on lawyers, investigators, accountants, case managers - whatever, professionals you need to help you recover. That’s right, we will do whatever it takes to help you recover your good name and we will spend up to $1,000,000 to do it.

Our $1 Million Service Guarantee

What are the details of LifeLock's $1 Million Total Service Guarantee?

LifeLock works to help stop identity theft before it happens by taking proactive steps to reduce your risk. But if you become a victim of identity theft while you are a LifeLock member because of some failure or defect in our service, contact us and we will act on your behalf to repair any damage. We will spend up to $1 million to hire lawyers, investigators, consultants and whatever else it takes to restore your name and help you recover the direct losses from the identity theft.

What to expect if you invoke the $1 Million Total Service Guarantee:

In most cases, your name can be restored within 30 days. Here's how it works:

Upon verification of the claim, we will assign a Member Services Agent who will continue to be your contact throughout the resolution of your case. You will also receive access to our toll-free dedicated Resolution Line, so you can be quickly routed to your Member Services Agent.

You will have a conference call with a 3rd party expert and your LifeLock representative to assess the facts of your case and determine the type and nature of the identity theft that has occurred.

A 3rd party Recovery Specialist is then assigned to the case. The Recovery Specialist will:

• Consult with you.

• Explain your rights as a victim.

• Educate you on the recovery process.

• Obtain additional information that is necessary to proceed with the recovery process.

• Give you the pre-fill forms, and step-by-step instructions necessary for your state jurisdiction and type of identity theft.

• Send over a Power of Attorney form that will allow them to act on your behalf.

You will need to:

• Follow the step-by-step instructions provided to you.

• Sign and notarize appropriate documents.

• File a police report, in person, as required by law.

• Send back the documents, in the pre-addressed, overnight envelope provided.

Upon the closing of the case, we will call you to ensure that your identity has been recovered to your full satisfaction.

What items or costs does the $1 Million Total Service Guarantee NOT cover?

Our $1 Million Total Service Guarantee does not cover: lost wages or business profits, loss of business or lost opportunities and direct out-of-pocket expenses like postage stamps, gas or mileage to go to local authorities, or any notary public fees, etc. The guarantee does cover the cost for lawyers, investigators, case managers but not any direct losses as a result of the theft. Under the Terms and Conditions, NO money passes directly to our LifeLock members.
